There are fish, …and then there are FISH. Lurking in the murky depths of the worlds great waterways are bizarre giantsspecimens of such enormous proportion and odd appearance they boggle the mind. In his quest to save the worlds big fish, aquatic ecologist Zeb Hogan has wrangled some of the biggest freshwater fish in the world. In this episode, we follow Zeb as he goes in search of Africas biggest freshwater fish1: the Nile perch. These voracious monsterfish can reach six feet and grow to over 400 pounds2. Zeb will come face to face with this giant in its watery home, as it competes with 15-foot crocs3 and giant catfish4 as one of Africas top aquatic predators. Hes also come to investigate the stories hes heard that this fish - and the people that depend on it -could be in trouble.
