June the 5th 1944. The biggest air and naval fleet in history is about to take off for France, to free Europe from Nazi Germany's clutches. Tension is at its peak. World War II enters its fifth year of combat. Despite setbacks in Russia, the power of Germany is still so strong that the Anglo-American Allies have recruited two million men, all ready to sacrifice their lives. In France, civilians, common people, members of the resistance are listening to Radio-London, expecting to hear the signal of their liberation. When finally they see the Allies landing on their beaches in Normandy, they cannot believe their eyes and, unaware of the danger, they leave their shelters to welcome them in the middle of combat.
